We’re currently seeking both Launch Masters and dual Launch Master/Relief Tug Masters to join our Marine Team. The Marine Team are responsible for providing a full suite of marine services including pilotage, towing and lines-handling - seven days a week, 364 days a year.
Reporting to the General Manager Marine and Cargo, Launch Masters and dual Launch Master/Relief Tug Masters are responsible for serving as a master on our Pilot Launch, Pania, with the dual Launch Master/Relief Tug Masters also serving as a master on our two tugs Ahuriri and Te Mata.
Key priorities of the role are:
- Launch Master duties including pilotage and the maintenance of deck and safety equipment
- For the dual role - Tug Master duties including towage services and deck maintenance of assigned tug
- Ancillary work such as buoy work and other general harbour duties
- Contribution to a culture of continuous improvement
- Health and Safety – supporting a Just Safety culture
Successful candidates will have the ability to communicate effectively, will be a team player and have a strong customer focus. They must have a proven record of reliability, a positive work ethic and attitude, and hold a minimum of a current Skipper Restricted Limits (SRL) Certificate. Experience in either Launch and/or Tug operation is a requirement, with direct experience in voith and/or azimuth tugs being advantageous.
